Should I include a photo on my resume?
Question:
Should I include a photo on my resume?
Answer:
No. Point blank. Unless you are an actor or model, there is absolutely no reason to include your picture on your resume.
Explanation:
Photos on resumes are almost always a bad idea. Unless how you look is relevant to your job, they don’t provide any useful information, which means they’re wasting space. And space really matters on a resume. You need every square inch. Fill it with information that tells a hiring manager how well you’ll do the job you’re applying for.
Including a resume also opens you up to discrimination, whether it be based on race, age, sex, or just what your face looks like. Seriously–I have had recruiters tell me they didn’t move people forward in the interview process because they couldn’t stand a candidate’s voice. Is that rare? Thankfully, yes. But it does happen, so it’s best to minimize the opportunities for someone to disqualify you for a stupid reason.
